About 20-0

20-0 is a free, browser-based roster-building game about one simple question: could a team you assemble from the all-time greats go a perfect season? You spin a slot machine of historical teams and eras, draft one player per position, and your finished roster is scored against a calibrated curve — the stronger and more balanced the lineup, the more games it's projected to win, all the way to a flawless 20-0.

How the game works

Each round you're shown a random franchise and a window of years — say a dynasty-era roster or a single modern season — and you pick one player from that pool to fill an open slot. Fill all your positions and the roster is simulated: an era-normalized overall rating for each player drives a non-linear win projection, so a deep, well-balanced roster reaches the perfect run while a top-heavy one with a weak link falls short. Every player gets only the seasons they actually earned, and a team-and-era never repeats within a single run, so no two games play out the same way.

Beyond the solo run there's a Daily Challenge — the same spins for everyone, one attempt a day, with its own leaderboard — plus head-to-head online play where you and other people draft from an identical sequence and are ranked by the quality of the team you build.

How the ratings are built

The hardest part of an all-time game is comparing eras fairly. A dominant passer from the 1970s and one from today put up wildly different raw numbers, so raw stats alone can't rank them. Every player-season in 20-0 is given an era-normalized rating: production is measured relative to the league context of that specific season, then blended with durable, era-proof signals of greatness — championships, major individual awards, and all-time accolades. The result is a single 0–100 number that lets a 1985 defender and a 2023 defender stand on the same field and be judged on the same scale.

Ratings are tuned against a difficulty harness that simulates thousands of optimal and realistic drafts, so a perfect season stays genuinely hard — reachable with great roster-building, not by luck. We revisit the calibration whenever the data set changes.

A network of games

20-0 is the football edition of a larger family of "can you go perfect?" games — each one the same idea in a different sport, with its own all-time data set and its own perfect-season target. You can find them all on the More Games page.

Who makes it

20-0 is an independent fan project built by a small team because we love arguing about all-time teams — not by any league or franchise. It's free to play, with no download required. If you have a question, a correction on a player's data, or a bug to report, the feedback page comes straight to us.
