MLB roster builder: lineup and pitching strategy
162-0 is the baseball roster builder on the 20-0 network. Spin a team and era, choose eligible player-seasons, and assemble a lineup and pitching staff. Your completed roster receives a simulated season result, with the aim of going undefeated and chasing a World Series title.
The standard roster has 12 players
Fill nine hitting slots: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, CF, RF and DH. Add two starting pitchers and one relief pitcher. Full Rotation expands the staff to four starters and two relievers, making a 15-player roster with the same nine hitters.
Check the primary and alternate positions on each card. Being an outfielder does not automatically make every outfield slot available, and a starter is not automatically eligible for a relief slot.
Keep DH available for a later opportunity
DH accepts any hitter. It can rescue an excellent batter whose fielding position is already filled. Using it immediately removes that option for the rest of the draft.
For example, suppose C and DH are empty and your best option is a catcher. Putting that player at C keeps DH available for a future first baseman, outfielder or another catcher. Putting the same player at DH leaves you needing a catcher specifically. The rating has not changed, but your future choices have.
Draft the season on the card
You select a player-season, so reputation alone is an incomplete guide. Check the year and displayed production in Classic. Different versions of a famous hitter can offer different value, and the best available season may belong to a less recognizable name.
Consider the full offensive profile rather than one headline statistic. For pitchers, separate effectiveness over a season from a memorable single game. The game assigns player-season ratings and uses roster strength for the result, rather than replaying every historical pitch.
Do not leave pitching to chance
A completed batting order is only part of the roster. Watch the remaining staff requirements as closely as the missing fielding positions. A great starter cannot solve an empty relief slot unless the card is eligible there.
Full Rotation adds more pitching decisions. With four SP and two RP slots to fill, taking an acceptable pitcher early can preserve options later. Reroll when the available pool does not address the positions you need, and check the allowance for your selected mode.
Review a daily draft one decision at a time
After a Daily Challenge, compare within that day and mode. Which slot cost you quality, and did an earlier placement leave too few choices? A weak final player can be the consequence of using a flexible slot too soon.
